I am not sure I can get there from here
I was inspired to write a post about my first show. I am just not sure I can get there from here
What inspired me? You probably did not ask, but I will still answer..
Ohmyrockness had an article about Patrick McNamara's first show ... It was great! Well written and Funny. I felt it really documented his progression from good christian kid to normal well balanced adult, and paralleled it to the Smashing Pumpkins. It was good, but I had a tough time relating. I came to terms with my progression (my perspective to normal slightly imbalanced adult....
My musical life progressed from Led Zeppelin...to Gary Numan ...to Social Distortion... to Bauhaus et al... to the Crystal waters... To the Smashing Pumpkins.. to The Three Johns.. to Acid Jazz.... to Parenthood ...
It is funny that I twisted and turned my way around into a very complex musical backstory. I still hold all of these music stages close, but have never been stuck on a single genre.
Cautionary tale: 70s rock is a gateway drug to parenthood. Sad, my kids may end up with Stairway to heaven flashbacks and have no idea why.. S
So I grew up on the central California coast... A sleepy little town called Los Osos.
My child hood consisted of: Running around naked at Hippie festivals (mostly anti nuke rallies really, I hope I was no older than 5, but honestly might been 7). Riding my bike everywhere. Staying up late watching SNL (at 11)...
My Led Zeppelin tutelage came from working at the bike shop, I was 9 and was pay in bikeparts. The owner, in retrospect, was a young man and did nothing but listen to the likes of Led Zeppelin, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd and Supertramp. When Breakfast in America came out. I just had to go buy it. I never considered that my first album I purchased. As I was under the influence of others...
One night I stayed up late and watched Saturday Night Live. The musical guest was Gary Numan.. I was fixated on his style and music I ran out and bout bought as many albums as I could find and afford with my recently added paper delivery income (can not believe that was legal).
Then my older sister started dating the "Shawm" the king punk rocker of the major metropolitan center in San Luis Obispo California... Strange... soon after that I started to listening/watching Nightflight and Punk rock. In the summer of 1981 Social Distortion came to the San Luis Obispo Vets hall.
It was so overwhelming. I saw my brother shredding the mosh pit. He was so moved. He circled around the center without "slamming". I was on the outside, but his movements seemed so very antagonistic to the slamming and abuse that occurred in the center. I could see it all, I can remember "Mommy's Little Monster" but that is it...
So Shawm some how ended up getting us in the after party. Again I was 14, I remember sitting in the basement. In a booth of some sort. I am not sure if I was to be hidden away or that was where it was supposed to happen. Then Mike Ness from Social Distortion came in sat right across from me, I knew who he was he held in is hand a lunch box. he opened it it was full of drugs... I am not sure if I was whisked away, but that was all I remember, I was close to fame I was there I knew it was close.
So funny I see Mike Ness now. I love the music. He impresses me.
Interestingly enough he is married to a girl I went o High school with.
Thanks for reading.

All my Music Leads to Mark Gajadhar
So many years ago I started listening to Rocky Voltolato. Yeah, I was in my edgy folk acoustic state of mind. I read about the artist, mild stalking nothing serious. I mean he lives in Seattle, just had a child (now has two or three), His brother is in a Band (or was at least) Blood Brothers.
So I find Blood Brothers' a CD at the local used record store... I buy it, I guess that is like "capitalism stalking" capstalking?
It rocks. I like it.
Soon I start listening to KEXP's live feed in Seattle. They Play Past Lives. I love it! I download as much as I can find.
A couple years pass. I have no kids on a week day so I decide to go see a show at a semi local venue (StarFucker with Champagne Champagne)
I am blown away with both bands, but Champagne Champagne makes me realize I can love Hip Hop. Mind bending for me really.
So I start following (really a form of stalking) the Pearl, Thomas and Mark Show..
I find that all of my musical ramblings have the very important ingredient Mark Gajadhar...
Sir you are amazing!
